Circa 1991, I took a Dallas Highland Park born, New York City educated, Hollywood indoctrinated, socialite, whose books I published, to a Jerry Jeff show at Billy Bobs, the Fort Worth Stockyards uber honky-tonk with indoor bull riding ring. She loved it, started wearing cowboy boots with mini-skirts, took up barrel racing, the books made a lot of money and she went back to Malibu.

Mr. Bojangles was such a melancholy song, covered many times. A fascinating version, by a man who embodied the theme:

Sammy adopted the song as his own and did a fantastic job of doing so. Many are familiar with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band version which became popular as well. I have a number of versions of Jerry Jeff singing his own song and, as with many a singer songwriter singing their own tune, there are one or two which I think embody the entire song.

Billy Bobs is a great place. Only been there once but loved it
