Didn't the world federation MANDATE that all women in beach volleyball must wear bikinis a while ago?
Yes, but in this case the FIVB ruled that out of respect for the traditions and cultures of the [douchebag] country the event is being held in the athletes should wear shirts and trousers.
My point is this: is being forced to compete scantily dressed any less restrictive than being forced to cover yourself a bit more (and we're not talking wearing burqas here)? There are plenty of sports where women don't compete in bikinis even in extreme heat.
As you can see, the small Olympic bib with the three-letter country code covers the front of the upper half of the uniform. I thought it was great to see the players representing the host country of the Rio Olympics wearing bibs that said BRA.
