    • I was never under the illusion OkSt was a #8 team, too erratic, but it was fun to be in the last ranks of the unbeaten and they should have won that game. Questionable spot on crucial 4th and one and a kicker (4 for 4 previous week with 3 over 50 yards) misses right from 50 and 32.. will do it.

Perhaps a naive question: When a team has no problem making 4,5,6 yards on first or second down but can't make third and one or fourth and one, why don't they run one of their 5 yards plays?

      • The real rankings come out a week from Tuesday. By then one of Michigan/Michigan State will be undefeated and the other out of things. Ohio State will have played Penn State and either beaten a ranked (although lower) team or lost a second game and out of it. Georgia will have played Florida which is a rivalry game and Florida can challenge them particularly if Mullen comes to his senses and plays Richardson for the entire game. I don't see who would jump Cincy or Oklahoma simply because the played tighter games than expected.

I wasn't even award of the OT rule change. Frankly, it's pretty stupid. It would make more sense to start teams from the opponents 40 if they are looking to quicken things.

Assuming Cincinnati wins out, their best hope is a 2 loss Alabama team. I think Georgia will provide that assuming there are no further chinks in either GA or AL schedule. Also....for whatever reason....the kid QB for Bama doesn't impress me as much as he impresses people who probably know more than me. He's calm...possibly too calm....and can make the throws but I find he sits back there too long when getting rid of the ball or running with it might be the wiser move. He's very hesitant to run which almost cost them the Florida game. He sits back there vs. GA and that game will be over early.

        • I find it interesting that the Coaches Poll punished Oklahoma by docking them 78 points and 2 spots for playing down to their competition but they gave Cincinnati a pass.

          • Oklahoma’s ranking (4). After flailing past the worst Power 5 program in the country in Kansas, the pollsters may be (mildly and tardily) tiring of the Sooners’ underwhelming act. They dropped one spot to fourth in the AP Top 25 and two spots to fourth in the coaches’ poll. It still isn’t far enough. The Dash said in weeks past that they are inflated with blueblood helium, and they appear to have a large supply of it. Fact is, Oklahoma has beaten next-to-nobody, and done so unimpressively. Yet there they remain in the top five.

            • Assuming the Sooners win vs TTech....Baylor will probably put an end to things the following game

                • With Kansas up on Oklahoma 10-0 at halftime, the Kansas Athletic Department tweeted this:

The gates are open on the east and west sides of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, no ticket required.

                    • Why does college football exist for this nonsense....

"I think what would have been the broadest response of the faculty is embarrassed for the university," Palmer said. "Especially because they've launched a new medical school in the last several years. We've gotten medicine, nursing, pharmacy -- you're building out as a health sciences university, and then you have a high-profile individual sending a different message.

Why does college track and field (and cross country) exist when you have the University of Oregon humiliating athletes?
Why does college lacrosse exist when you have rape cover-ups?
Why does college baseball exist when you have steroid scandals?
Why does college gymnastics exist with their scandals?
Wrestling, basketball, hockey, volleyball . . . every sport has scandals.

Find the culprits, punish them, get rid of them, be vigilant.

Exactly....get rid of scholarships completely and make the coaches volunteers...

The rot is never going away. Especially in football...you find one cockroach there are 10 others out there.

The Individual was the highest paid state employee....

                          • At major universities, a couple of sports are actual income streams for the school. Others are sources of donations from Alums and supporters. It's mostly about the money. Love it or hate it, that is one of the aspects of America that is baked into the cake - capitalism. I do not see the current college structure changing, unless it is a result of the new NIL rules.

At a very large majority of colleges it is a big money loser.

There is nothing capitalistic about it. They use taxpayer money and student's tuition to fund these sports, especially football.

That's as capitalistic as it comes - get the government and other folks to pay for stuff and profit off of it . . .
