Watching the Oho State-Michigan game is a perfect illustration of why the transitive property of equality doesn't apply to sports. Muhammad Ali was 2-1 in 3 dog fights with Joe Frazier that lasted a total of 41 rounds while George Foreman only needed a total 7 rounds to knock Frazier out twice in 2 fights. Because of this most folks thought Ali would get massacred in the Rumble in the Jungle but instead it was Foreman who got knocked out because he didn't match up as well against Ali as he did with Frazier.
Michigan State beat Michigan 4 weeks ago but got massacred by Ohio State last week in the football equivalent of a 2nd round knockout. Yet today, the Buckeyes have their hands full with the Wolverines because they don't match up as well against them as they did against Michigan State. Matchups matter when predicting sports outcomes.
For the folks trying to understand how Oregon beat Ohio State this year, could it be that the Ducks were just a bad matchup for the Buckeyes?
It is just a game...with a bunch of kids at various levels of maturity and lot of them not all that smart. Their behavior from one week is more random than anything else.
This week's CFP rankings will be interesting. Should be:
1. Georgia
2. Cincinnati
3. Michigan
4. A toss up between :
* Alabama
* Notre Dame, if they win today
* winner of OU v OSU

The only way for Alabama to get in is to beat Georgia barring what I mention below. The only reason I was hoping Alabama won today was to make next weeks game mean something. Georgia is in win or lose. Assuming Cincinnati wins they are in. Oklahoma St or Oklahoma might get in over Notre Dame because they will need to win 2 games against better competition than ND has played.
The interesting thing would be if Michigan and the winner of tonights OU/OSU loses next week. Then Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, either OU or OSU and maybe Oregon would all have 2 losses. Notre Dame lost the only game they played of any relative value.

It is not a science experiment...
The folks in Vegas who are making money hand over fist in the sports betting business would beg to differ.
Still in the hunt:
Georgia (clinched)
Alabama
Cincinnati
Michigan
Notre Dame
Oklahoma State
Eliminated:
Ohio State
Oklahoma
If Georgia takes care of business next weekend, we will have a CFP without, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson or Oklahoma.
How about if Michigan and Oklahoma State both lose? We'd have Georgia, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and ??? Do Alabama and Oklahoma St and Oregon all get points at 11-2 for making the conference championship game? And who amongst them is the choice?

That would harken back to 2007 when LSU went into championship Saturday with 2 losses and a #7 ranking and ended up in the BCS Championships game after a day of chaos.
