The negative thing is kind of tricky but looks like you got it. I quickly walked through the kitchen and my wife had the red carpet thing on and some guy with a ridiculous voice was fawning over everyone and it turns out to be some guy named Isaac that I thought I read by complete accident while looking for something else that he got in trouble for groping someone. Why is he on TV? The host is some guy who regularly hosts some other ridiculous thing apparently known as "American Idol". Anyone heard of it?

I did my usual thing of having it on the TV behind my desk - I turn around and watch the good parts, but I ended up watching over 80% of it, because

a. I just like Jon Stewart
b. the 'sensational' aspects of the big movies/performances.
c. some of my favorite actors (-tresses) were presenters.
d. the video clip bits were entertaining.

I thought the whole thing was a B+. Only Billy Crystal's stints were better.

What?? We have a big party around this every year, sort of like a late Super Bowl thing. No one really cares, but we have good food, good drinks, and a contest to see who can guess the most winners. Everyone puts in $20, the winner takes all. And this year, hammy took home the bread! Got 20 out of 24 right, including all the majors (Crash for best movie, Ang Lee for directory – who but hammy would have guessed??).

We traditionally have an Oscar party as well, but this year all our friends were out of town! So, we had to go it alone.

As for taking the Oscars seriously: depends on what you mean, but I don't take that Best Picture winner seriously. Of all those nominated, "Crash" was not the one I would have picked to win. After seeing "Brokeback Mtn" -- good story, but poorly realized movie -- I was leaning toward "Good Night and Good Luck".

Must be a California thing. We went to late brunch by the water at Marina del Rey, then to a party in West LA. Only problem is that the gradual increase in decibel level makes it a bit hard to hear anything as the evening progresses!
