          Don't forget: Slave ship Captain.

Asner appeared in three episodes of ABC's award-winning miniseries Roots as Captain Thomas Davies. For his performance, the TV legend won yet another Emmy, in the category of outstanding single performance by a supporting actor in a comedy or drama series. Roots follows the family line of creator Alex Haley, from the enslavement of his ancestor Kunta Kinte to the post-Civil War liberation of Kinte's lineage. The miniseries garnered widespread success and was one of the most-watched television series of its time.

One of the greatest exchanges in the history of situation comedies.

            "Wanna call a cop?".

Also...he calls cue cards "idiot cards". When Ted corrects him that it's cue cards he tells Murray to "give the cue cards to the idiot".

John Amos, who played the weatherman for several years before leaving to star in Good Times, is still alive (age 81, per Wiki).

I had forgotten that he had that role.

Gordy wasn't in many episodes. More of a recurring character.
