Dang!!! I watched LSU/VA Tech, dozed off and completely missed Iowa/SC. Iowa and Oklahoma were the last two states to play 6-girl HS basketball. I happened to be in Iowa one timeduring the 6-girl era on Women's State Championship night, and have never seen such statewide obsession.

Watching a series on the history of SEC Basketball last week, 6 girl basketball was shown as the standard through the late 60's (I think). I had never seen 6 girl basketball (or heard of it) prior. Really bizarre.

Did they play half-court? If so I'm sure I remember old stories of my grandma's playing days... but half-court was involved. 🤷♂️

South Carolina's starting five consisted of Boston (# 3 HS player in 2019), Cooke (# 4 in 2019), Beal (# 11 in 2019), Sexton (# 47 in 2018), and Fletcher (# 51 in 2017).

Clark (# 4 in 2020) and Warnock (# 84 in 2019) are the only Iowa starters in the HS top 100.

South Carolina also had Johnson (# 2 in 2021), Feagin (# 4 in 2021), Cardoso (# 5 in 2020), Amihere (# 10 in 2019) Watkins (# 12 in 2022) and Hall (# 14 in 2021) on the bench.

Ediger (# 39 in 2021) and Stuelke (# 45 in 2022) are the only Iowa bench players in top 50.

3 women on each side of the court for each team. Looks like after each possession the ball was passed to the other group of 3 and you had what amounted to two 3 on 3 half-court games going at the same time.

And she still has another year in college! Unless she goes to play in Europe for a year before entering the WNBA draft, because the WNBA won't take college players who are less than 4 years out of high school.

I have never seen a game under the rules my mother played. Six girls, three sections of court, offense, central, and defense, with two players in each section, no crossover, and limited dribble before passing the ball. Apparently, mama was a gunner once the ball got in her court.

Diamond Miller was #17, Liz Kitley was # 33 and Mackenzie Holmes was # 53 in 2019. Ashley Joens was # 27 in 2018. Maddy Siergrist was unranked. They are now all All Americans. On the other hand... I am not going to name names at the other end.
