Apparently, I have lived a musically sheltered life. I have literally never heard of 103 of these singers. Of the remaining 97, I recognize the music of the 17 CW singers and 23 of the rest, 40 out of 200.
OTOH, I recognize nearly all of the omitted singers listed by my more musically knowledgeable forum members as overlooked.

Agree with TN1965's omissions list and I would add Rhiannon Giddens way up near the top of the list. Also Brazil's Maria Bethania. Oh, and Leon Redbone.
My favorite male singer for many years has been Gordon Lightfoot, so also second the poster who mentioned him. I kinda like folk/Americana as my preferred music of choice. I guess Lightfoot is more Canadiana but still my fav

Lenna Horne.
Dionne Warwick.
Carla Thomas.
Natalie Cole.
Joan Osbourne.
Celine Dion.

Norah Jones.
Eva Cassidy.
Joss Stone.
India.Arie.
Jennifer Hudson.
Nat King Cole.

And I have probably forgotten about some people.
And yes, where are Alanis, Lucinda Williams, Brandi Carlile, Tom Petty, Shirley Manson, Natalie Maines, and my newest sweetheart, Courtney Barnett?
Then there's Sheryl Crow!!
Judy Garland's Live at Carnegie Hall 1963 is one of the greatest live concert albums ever made!!

Joni reportedly didn't like being referred to as the female Bob Dylan. She was asked why she felt that way and replied that it was a huge compliment but..."I'm better singer for starters".
