Clearly she has fantastic pipes, but I consider her and Michael Bublé the Vanilla of singers. Great voices but little 'soul' in what they sing. I'd rather listen to Joe Cocker do whatever he's attempting to do than either of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bt1eUirALU

Whenever I think of Celine Dion I remember a comment on ESPN radio a few weeks after 9/11. The news people announced that she was going to do a concert to support the families of the victims. After a long pause, the other guy then said, "Haven't they suffered enough already?"

LOL! For reasons I'm not really sure, Ms. Dion has always annoyed the crap out of me whether she's singing, talking or just standing there.

I think Celine Dion has much better recording material in French. Yes, it was her choice to record songs in English, and there are many non-native speakers who sing extremely well in English (Sissel comes to mind). But I think it's rather unfortunate.

I feel the same way about Shakira. (Her Spanish stuff is much better, although I don't understand Spanish.)

            Frankie Valli.
            Philip Bailey.

            Art Garfunkel.
            Michael McDonald.
            James Engram.
            Teddy Pendergrass.
            Darryl Hall.

Ah, SIssel. The voice of an angel. My absolute favorite female voice ever - would love to see her in concert some day but she rarely comes to the USA, and usually then only to sing with the Morman Tabernacle Choir.

One other voice I thought they might have considered (I realize Sissel is outside their genre) is Jennifer Nettles, whose powerful voice always stuns me

I attended her concert about 15 years ago. She joked how the venue was getting bigger and bigger every time she came back to the US.

On my way home, my car radio played Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" which I had heard during the concert. And I thought "this guy cannot hold a candle to Sissel." (Sorry if I offended any Groban fans.)

The Titanic sank her chances with the panel.

Groban's voice is also quiet incredible.

And on another Sissel note, although Celine Dion sang the main song for the movie, all the background vocals without actual words were done by Sissel.

This is like saying Stan Wawrinka is an incredible player. Indeed, he is. But he is no Roger Federer.
