Have only seen three . . . well, actually 1 (Top Gun), 1/2 (Elvis), and 1/2 (Everywhere . . .) The latter I've tried watching twice, and just had to quit. I thought Top Gun: Maverick was fairly good, maybe not quite as good as the first one. In general, kind of a week year in movies.

As previously reported, I did enjoy a private screening of Triangle of Sadness. A satirical black comedy in three acts, it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. The second act includes a good-natured, drunken, political debate between an Eastern European capitalist and an American Marxist. May garner some sympathy vote, as the lead actress passed away shortly before the international release. She survived an auto accident back in 2008, but had to have her spleen removed, and her death was caused by bacterial sepsis.

I watched the original Last Of The Mohicans (1920) last night. Good stuff.

The Elvis flick was very enjoyable. Not sure that qualifies for a best picture, but I definitely recommend it.

The last version--with DDL--was incredibly good stuff. Several critics said it was the rare action/adventure movie that was equally enjoyed by both men and women.

Sort of related, that Tom Hanks has just been nominated for Razzies for both worst actor (Disney's Pinnochio) and worst supporting actor (Elvis) this past year.

As do all Americans, I like him a lot, but he has been miscast too many times. He was all wrong as Robt Langdon in the Dan Brown movies.

Tom Hanks and Robert De Niro are both all-time great actors. Neither of the two are particularly talented in choosing roles. Pretty much the opposite extreme amongst Oscar-winning actors to Daniel Day-Lewis.

I'm in the middle of a long-needed Godzilla binge, all eras: good, bad, goofy and they are infinitely more entertaining than any of the trailers of these 2022 seem to promise.

                    Long live the King!

You there, on the motorbike! Sell me one of your melons!

I can't believe Top Gun and Avatar are elected for Best Picture. Standards are dropping!

I’m not entirely sure how the fuck this happened.
I guarantee that Cate Blanchett has never had to think like that.

Am I the only one who thought Nick Cage playing Nick Cage was worthy of a nomination?

That may have as much to do with how few movies there are with good leading roles for women. I haven't seen "Blonde," but I've read that de Armas was nothing special in it.

Standards? What standards? Whose standards? My sister and I go round and round with this when it comes to movies and a few other personal taste topics such as music. She of the "I'm too artsy for you to understand" and me of the "was I really entertained by the movie" types.

It's a good thing she's your sister. If it were my sister, I'd say, "Oh, OOOOOOOK, Miss I'mSpecial." If it were not my sister, that would be the end of the conversation. If you can't articulate your position better than, no sense in continuing.
