Not to belittle the contribution of the man mentioned in the article, but the original Clarabell, from The Howdy Doody Show, passed away in 2004: Bob Keeshan, aka Captain Kangaroo.

Ah, for the days of Clarabell, Chief Thunderthud, Phineas T. Bluster, Don Jose Bluster, FlubbaDub, and last but not least Princess SummerFallWinterSpring... plus some wierd looking freckled Dork named Howdy something.

That show started when TV was just catching on. I used to walk around the neighborhood asking people to let me so I could watch the show at 5:30. Finally my Dad bought a 13" TV !
