I listened on radio ( no TV coverage at least not for free ) After it ended ( couldn't believe it ! ) the on the air guy ( Howard Cosell ? ) asked Floyd, " Floyd, Floyd, what happened ?! ", and Patterson mumbled, " It was the right."

However, as the article points out:

"Fifteen prior heavyweight champions had lost their crown without retiring and none had regained it. But Patterson would make history on June 20, 1960, at the Polo Grounds stadium in New York with a fifth-round knockout of the Swede. "

Floyd's overall career was outstanding.
