But at least the flood gates and levees held.
Here's a good video of the flood gates being closed.

Headline - Farmer's Almanac says we're in for one of the coldest winters in 'years.' Should you trust it?

Interesting quote at the end of this glacial melt video. We are encountering weather conditions outside those which saw the development of our species....https://news.google.com/articles/CCA...S&ceid=US%3Aen

Well my eldest made it to Madison late yesterday afternoon. A lot of uncertainty from Tulane about how long they will be gone: 2 weeks, 6 weeks. Will it be virtual for a while or all in person (if 6 weeks, starting virtual I think). Jazz was quite helpful for us getting through this!

I'm glad to see things turned out alright. I just got electricity a couple of hours and now the only thing I'm waiting on is internet service. I feel lucky because if I was 40-50 miles east, not only would I be without electricity for at least another month, but I would also be without water and sewer.Last edited by jazzcyclist; 09-02-2021, 11:12 PM.

Hurricane Camille, 1969, continued to drop heavy rain on up through the Ohio Valley and into Virginia, the latter receiving anywhere from 8" to 20", possibly as much as 31" in one location. Some 150 people died in Virginia, mostly from blunt trauma from landslides. NYC is another 350 miles NE from western Virginia, so Ida's distance reach is pretty impressive.
