Reads like a bad scary movie but true:

Three people have died and almost 500 were injured following a scorpion swarm in Egypt's southern city of Aswan caused by thunderstorms since Friday, bringing many of them onto the streets and into peoples' homes. Many of the attacks occurred in the mountainous areas of the governorate.

The further details of her story are that while hiking to Canada, she started a fire to boil & purify water she suspected of including bear urine, which makes just a tad more sense than 'she was boiling urine to drink'. We'll see if the authorities buy that story.

The Mile High City has been a mile-high dry city as of late, with an ongoing drought prolonging fire season as Denverites await their first snow of the season. Through Sunday, no measurable snow had fallen this fall, matching a record for the latest into the season on record. That record will be broken once Monday is over.

Measurable snow hasn’t fallen in Denver since April 21, a 215-day stretch, which is also nearing a record.

Wednesday features the only chance of snow in the next week and is a long shot. Most days this week are forecast to be quite mild. Highs some 10 to 15 degrees above average are expected Monday and Tuesday and again Friday into the weekend.

Fires may be more probable than snowflakes.

Fire weather watches are up for the mountains west of Denver and most of southern and eastern Colorado, where relative humidity values could drop as low as 7 percent Tuesday, with winds gusting over 30 mph.

This follows on from high winds that resulted in, I think, 3 fatalities. I am fortunate to be to the south and west of the storm. It has just been a bit gusty with some rain showers here.

If you are going to be stuck anywhere, a pub must be one of the best places. I don't think many British pubs have their own snowplough:

Reminds me of April 1957 in my well-site geologist days. I was trapped in a motel in western KS days for three days by a late snowstorm that filled the courtyard of the north-facing U-shaped motel to the eaves of the porch that fronted the entire motel. The motel was full of a surprisingly diverse collection of people. We dug a tunnel under the porch all the way around so everyone could get to the manager's office/residence where we communed, played games, gathered around a minuscule, snowy TV set, and speculated about the true relationship of the Houston oilman and his much younger "niece". I was the last car in and the only one that could get of the parking lot. Fitted with snow tires, I made grocery runs to the town's only grocery store and the manager's wife kept us fed. Fortunately, the oil rig, some miles out of town, ran out of fuel and had to shut down, otherwise, they would have drilled through the pay zone that I was en route to test. No harm done.

When I was around 10, we went to western NY state for Christmas (g-parents lived in Westfield), right on Lake Erie. There were always big snowfalls there, but that winter we had a lulu.
After the blizzard, there were strong winds and the snow drifts went 25' up the 2-story house - to mid-roof. So weird to go out back and only see a thin-line of roof showing.

We are indeed dry dry dry in Colorado. The first six months of the year we had above average precipitation and everything greened up like I haven’t seen it in years. The last few months, very little precipitation at all. Light dusting of snow at the most a few nights ago here in Colorado Springs. Just finished a mountain bike ride with some friends and it’s a beautiful day, unseasonably warm for late November. Those friends have a place at Crested Butte and say that Crested Butte has received less snow by the end of November than in any year since 1975. Ski industry will be hurting and the fire danger over the next year will be extreme unless we start getting some moisture.
