in early january, the prognosis for barbaro was very good, expecting him to be released from the new bolten center..

then on january 9, he had a major setback, the healing hoofs were NOT forming properly, basically, they had to remove major portions of it....

and then he began to favor the injury, and things quickly went bad...

One thing to take from this is an understanding of what the doctors are up against with a horse with a broken leg. I can certainly accept seeing a horse put down with a broken leg in the future
