  • Marlon Devonish, Baseball Player?

There's currently a story about Devonish's new life as a 100 guy posted on the front page. From a UK site. And the headline there is "Devonish Steps Up To The Plate."

To me, that's a 100% baseball term; curious as to what the UK usage might be. Or has that little bit of idiom actually crept into your lexicon as well with the proper meaning of "coming to the table ready to go" without anybody realizing the derivation?

    Inquiring minds need to know!

Exactly that. Most people would probably know the derivation if they thought about it, but it exists as an expression independent of its roots, if you see what I mean.
