  • 'Reefer Madness In NFL Drug Rules'

Columnist's take on Ricky (got a light?) Williams is that his marijuana offenses have drawn--and I'm assuming she's right--more suspension time than all the BALCO people, and all the people from the South Carolina physician scandal, combined. (NFL people)

Well that's bound to happen when you fail 5 tests for an illegal drug.

Dumb IS the operative word here, but not as a modifier for the test.

          Column agrees with you

<<The result isn't all bad. Williams must have lost control of his life to a frightening degree if he couldn't give up the reefer when he knew that he would be tested and that he would lose millions over a bad urine sample.>>

But that doesn't diminish the point of the article; that the NFL is poking at easy targets and skillyfully still ignoring the hard ones.

At one point, Knapp asks why the union ever agreed to let marijuana be tested for. I would think the answer is easy: by copping to that they could keep a hard stance on the real problem drugs.

What they SHOULD have done is crack down hard on laudanum and thereby show their disdain for drugs without the worry of actually having to catch anyone! Unless Samuel Coleridge counts.

But it's ILLEGAL. He broke the LAW.

Ask Odell Thurman how he feels sitting out his second year for DUI.

The fact that he can't simply not take the stuff given the high price he is paying is proof that, MAYBE FOR SOME PEOPLE, it isn't so harmless.

                    One's a misdemeanor, the other's a potential felony.

As long as the use of weed is treated differently from the use of alcohol and tobacco, all laws and rules regulating its use, along with any supposed outrage over folks who decide to use it, are hypocritical beyond belief.

Regardless, the NFL has taken a zero tolerance policy regarding players who commit crimes. He did it 5 times.

Don't miss the point here - he was suspended for illegal activity.

This is actually a brilliant strategy the NFL has employed... makes for wonderful headlines about drug enforcement!.. a better bang for the buck marketing wise could not be invented by a brain trust of marketing agents... Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain whose initials are PED.
... nothing really ever changes my friend, new lines for old, new lines for old.
