  • BBC Censors The Pogues

(in a similar vein, original versions of Money For Nothing by Dire Straits had a similar usage you no longer find)

I thought that was TYPICAL Brit humor. Since when was Queen Victoria back on the throne?

I'm with you on this. I've always loathed that song.

Picked up a CD of the Rat Pack at Christmas: Deano, Ole Blue Eyes and Sammy D. Great stuff. Sammy D is an amazing mimic.

Forgot to add: CD cost €4!

If they'd continued to censor "faggot" I'd have objected to them leaving in "maggot"...I quite enjoy his posts here. I have always liked that song a lot.

Are they playing Slades, "Merry Christmas Everyone", yet in the UK? If you want to hear another bit of Brit culture search on youtube (I'm not permitted to post a link here.....).

Believe Kirsty MacCool used to be married to Elvis Costello?
If you start censoring The Pogues, you're going to end up with lots of instrumentals!

Just ordered this because I assumed I had A New England and don't. It has Fairytale on it too:

Sorry, it was Kaitlan O'Riordan, who was married to Elvis Costello (and sang with the Pogues).

                  They have now un-censored it.

When I was listening to Radio 1 the other morning, someone sent a text message to them saying: "If you're going to censor 'faggot', shouldn't you censor 'fairy', too?"

I just never got the Pogues at all. They bring the pub ambiance of stale beer, vomit and urinal cake to concert halls. So what?
