  • When Jones goes to jail, who gets the kids?

And is she using her "college degree" to work and support herself?

Did she ever pay her landscaper?

Sounds more like he over-spent for Christmas, and needs a P/T job for between 3-6 months.

Not hardly. Xmas no big deal, no kids, don't need anything, don't spend much, spent most of the 25th playing poker. Becoming a big game to your nordic countries.

BTW: No one has answered the questions yet.

Between Jones, Gay, and Bhutto you're on quite a roll.

Hence, motive for a part-time 3-6 month job. Babysitting.

Back on topic, Tim and CJ (and Uncle Victor, of course) are going to look after little Tim. They'll make a film about it:

Three Men and the Making of an Olympic Sprint Champion.

"Here, put some more "wheatgerm" on your Corn Flakes, son."

I wonder whether Marion doing jail time will serve any purpose. There are so many possible more constructive alternatives.

What do you propose as punishment for multiple felony offenses -- a time out?

On a related note, Scott Ostler in the SF Chron this morning:

<<-- Speaking of emphasizing a point with an Uncle-Sam-wants-you finger-point: Why is it that Rafael Palmeiro lied about steroids under oath at a Congressional hearing, and we have hard proof that he lied, but Raffy is not being tried for perjury and obstruction of justice? If I'm Barry Bonds, that's one of those things that makes me go "Hmmm.">>

Going to jail for a while and then slinking off into seclusion does nothing to help rectify the damge she has done. I propose she should have to go to 100 HSs and colleges over the course of the next two years, and explain WHY what she did was so wrong. That would help address her crimes and provide the necessary humility.

One purpose that is always served by imprisoning people who have committed crimes is deterrence. It's hard to measure, and in this case you might say it's very speculative, but it could be real. Someone accurately accused of doping might think twice about denying it if he/she thought they might go to jail, not for using PED's, but for lying about it.

Beyond that, however, I would argue that letting famous individuals like Marion Jones to get off without jail time is not a good idea. It is better for our society if people do not have the perception that the criminal justice system allows celebrities to be convicted of felonies and not be iimprisoned. I thought malmo's comment was appropriate.
