  • Harder working football coaches: college or pros?

Just came off my break where I was listening to sports talk radio. They're discussing the Falcons talking with Pete Carroll. Then they got into a debate about the work schedules of college and pro coaches. One guy said (not an exact quote, but close), "An NFL head coach must be a workaholic. He has to be a bad father, a bad husband, and totally devoted to those other 53 guys year round."

Anyone out there have insight into the subject? Would this sad statement be true? And what are the work schedules of college and NFL head coaches like? How are they different?

College coaches have to do one main things that the pro guys do not... Recruit ! They must get very sick of travelling to timbuktoo and shmoozing 18 year old egotistical teen age jocks.

Yeah, I know. But what of the NFL guys? They don't recruit, so what is taking up all their time to the point where some would say that they work longer hours than college coaches?
