  • iPod II--The Albums

Wow! Whoda thunk that that silly iPod thread would become one of our biggest sellers ever. Since it has petered out a bit, let's modify the rules. Once again you're marooned on a desert island with an iPod, but this time you get to have 10 albums. With minor clarifications:

*Once again, no artist can have more than one entry.

    *No greatest-hits compilations are allowed.

*One of them has to be classical music.

Now, how to decide which of 16 Beatles albums to take?!

    First one is easy:
    U2-Joshua Tree
    Gotta think about the rest.

The Beatles' album was easy too: Rubber Soul

The question probably could be answered but not easily. Here are 9 more that could easily be changed:

        Fleetwood Mac-Rumours
        Bowie-Station to Station
        Moby-Play
        New Order-Power Corruption and Lies
        Springsteen-Born To Run
        Supertramp-Crime of the Century
        Elton John-Captain Fantastic
        Genesis-The Lamb
        The Cure-Head on the Door

          Re: iPod II--The Albums

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking:

Stevie Wonder - "Songs In The Key Of Life"
India Arie - "Voyage To India"
          Jill Scott - "Experience +826"
Glenn Lewis - "World Outside My Window"
          Floetry - "Floetic"
          Musiq Soulchild - "JusLisen"
          Erykah Badu - "Baduizm"
          Koffee Brown - "Mars Venus"
          Faith Evans - "Faithfully"
Alicia Keys - "Songs In A Minor" - that's my classical one... Sunday Times (UK) listed it under the "classical" category when it was released, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! :-p

Does that mean one and only one, or does it mean at least one? And how do you count the Ring?

            >Now, how to decide which of 16 Beatles albums to take?!<

I'll take Sgt. Pepper, with Abbey Road a close second.

At least one; all be can classical if you're so inclined. I count The Ring as 4. (*although at one point I was considering a rule that if you're talking the original CD/album it can't be more than one disc)

Being the lazy guy I am, here is VH1’s list of top 100:

                  http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_albums.html

                  I choose:

                  6. The Beatles-Rubber Soul (1965) [US version]
                  12. The Rolling Stones-Exile on Main Street (1972)
                  13. The Who-Who's Next (1971)
                  15. U2-The Joshua Tree (1987)
                  16. Fleetwood Mac-Rumors (1977)
                  43. Led Zeppelin-Led Zeppelin (1969)
                  50. Police-Synchronicity (1983)
                  61. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young-Deja Vu (1970)
                  89. Derek & the Dominos-Layla (1970)

plus that classical album, of which I know little beyond Beethoven so I’ll take the 9th

Although I'd agree on Bob Marley's Legend, I think that its a "best of" compilation and thus disqualified for this discussion.

EGH needs to step in here. Nowhere on the cover does it say "Best of" so you have to cut me some slack here and accept "Legend"

My ego has taken a beating during these threads--no one has selected Fifth of Beethoven by the Walter Murphy Band. I was too modest to make it one of my own picks(:-)

HUH? The album cover says "Legend" "the best of...Bob Marley and the Wailers."
