    Not so fast -

Both lists utterly dominated by USAnians.

Down here in Alabama, we are told we have the second highest obesity rate in the nation. As in most other areas, we can thank our good friends in Mississippi from keeping us out of the cellar.

Not fair - what happened to Louisiana?

I guess if obseity increases mortality rates then we might expect regualr "changes of the guard" here...

I'm stunned Tonga/Ssmoa etc don't romp these rankings in... or is it just OECDmembers/first worlders (wobbling?) on the start line ?

AS, i think the really fat/big samoans are in the US, not in samoa.

in any case, the japanese are worried about a 33.5" waist line????

This does seem to be overdoing things. The current crop of ~25-40 year old Japanese have quite a few males who are close to 6 feet tall. A waistline below 33.5" for the (say) 5'10"+ group, would be asking them to be distinctly like Jerry S (of TV show fame).

Obesity by state in the US:

The 10 states with the highest obesity rates are:

                  Mississippi
                  Alabama
                  West Virginia
                  Louisiana
                  Kentucky
                  Tennessee
                  Arkansas
                  Indiana (tie for 8th)
                  South Carolina (tie for 8th)
                  Texas
"Colorado is the leanest state. But that's only by comparison: Seventeen percent of Coloradans are obese. Not even a single U.S. state is near the national goal of reducing the obesity rate to 15% by 2010."
