i had high hopes for these games as the bbc has about 6 channel to show thing on but once again the bbc decided to how absolutely no field events or qualifying prefereing endless, repetative babel from colin and michael

why would you not show the odd TJ final, or HJ qualifying rather than askoing colin about the 10k !!

considering they have about 6 channels showing stuff this is the worst coverage i've ever seen. there have been fiels event final for which i've seen no qualifying at all, this has never happened before
    i deserve extra credit

You do know that about 300 million people are now lining up to slap you for complaining about live coverage, right?

I've been watching BBC live video feed from their website and it must be a different feed. I saw highlights of the TJ and a couple HJ attempts. I've kept it on the main "channel" throughout and Colin and Michael haven't gotten too much airtime. Don't think I heard either of them comment on the 10k (thankfully). Assume you'd get close to the same quality I do as I am not having to proxy to the BBC site.

i can assure you colin and micheal gave there 2 peneth about the 10k

it just seem pointeless to me to keep going back to sue to discuss things that have already happened, show then again about 10 times, discu things that night happen, then discuss what happened again. all i'm asking for is that every now an then we can cut to a field event live an see what happens rather than waiting for a roun-up at the end by which time i know the result because i've seen the medallists running round the track waving a flag. i know we have to cater for casual viewers butbyou can't tell mw they would rather watch every lap of a 10k,or liten to colin pratteling on again rather then having some info on the 3 uk men who got inthe HJ final or the greatest womens TJ contest ever

Can't believe the treatment they gave the greatest women's TJ final ever. Just showed the top 6 or 8 jumps really. Very disappointing.

But mump boy - have some feeling for what sounds like seriously bad coverage by NBC. They didn't even show the 100m final live!

I've been generally sticking with the British Eurosport footage this year. Some of us actually want to see field event finals and qualifications and interviews from non-British athletes too. Besides which, there is usually a three-hour block on Eurosport, whereas they go back and forth on the BBC coverage to other events, which makes it rather confusing so I try and catch up on other sports on interactive afterwards.

I don't know about you guys but just seeing the face of Sue Barker these past few years has now ingrained in me a Pavlovian response to briefly leave my remote and head off for a crap/wee/drink/fridge/things to do household chore list/fresh air break.
Pausing only briefly to ponder the Rice Krispie permanently embedded on Sue's left cheek, and wondering how Cliff Richard and Greg Norman dealt with the unfortunate appendage i complete my appointed task and briskly head back into the room just as the fading, Batman like tones of Colin Jackson complete his latest stating of the bleeding obvious.
I understand it is an EU directive, imposed on Europe's only commercial free channel, to include these obligatory breaks into their broadcasts to help us lead more rounded lives during these occasions and for this i am grateful.

sue deserves her position because of her french open win in '76 - without it she'd never have got a broadcasting job

i looked back & checked how she managed to win it, seeing as chris evert was unbeatable on clay in those years

                the reason ?

                evert didn't play the french between '76 - '78

                http://www.ontennis.com/content/chris-evert

Of equal significance, it should also be recalled that Evert did not compete in the French Open in the years 1976, 1977 and 1978, owing both to a temporary decline in the fortunes of that event (so that the top Americans stayed away) and the lure of World Team Tennis. Again, since Evert was during this period enjoying her maximal dominance of the women's game, and was unbeatable on clay courts, there seems no serious doubt that she would have won the tournament on each of these occasions had she competed
seeing as she was unbeaten on clay between '73 - '79, winning it '73/'74 & then '79/'80, there's no reason to doubt it

sue shoud have a shrine in her house to evert & pray to her every day for the career evert's absence gave her

How Cliff dealt with the rest of Sue - and she was a comely wench 30 years ago - is something I can't imagine to save my life...

The coverage goes to Barker/Jackson and Johnson in the stadium, they talk about Liu Xiang, have a recap of yesterday's marathon, have a recap of the morning action and then go back to the gymnastics - all of this while the discus final, PV final and 100H semi finals are going on!

What's the point in going to the stadium if they're not going to show any of the live action?!

jon it's obvious, so we can hear the national anthem playing in the background and work out who just won events before they've even been shown

I paid closer attention to the coverage for the PM session from today and you're right there isn't enough field event coverage especially since you've got the talking heads yapping too much. It is still many times better than NBC and live! So I count my blessings that I can actually get the coverage- one of the benefits of working for a global internet company :-)

Or see Saladino on the screen behing Colin's head, getting his medal on the podium. It was particularly important that they ruined the LJ for us visually because I wouldn't have recognised the Panamanian national anthem.

Can anyone come up with any explanation as to why the BBC think that we would rather hear people talking about stuff we've seen with our own eyes instead of watching more action as it actually happens.

                            Questions

1 - Who was that random woman who popped up to do a trackside interview the other day.

2 - Can Kelly please have Colin's job. She was great today.

3 - Why when the heats are being shown at 3am and only us hardcore are tuning in, is it necessary to pander to the casual viewer by asking Michael to comment on a slow motion repeat of Christian Malcolm's 2nd round run? In fact do you even think a casual viewer wants to see this nonsense???

Can I add some questions ?

                              4. Who on earth thought Phil Jones was a good idea ? If I hear "Where do you go from here?" one more time ?

                              5. Who on earth thought "Oooh that Phil Jones is such a good interviewer, we'll make him an anchor" as they did the other day?

                              6. Did they eventually show Isi's pole vault WR ? I gave up in the end...

                              7. I'm all for showing other sports and yes, fine by me to have things on the main channel a little later but with all this interactive business going on, why do we need a whole channel devoted to "Olympic Memories" when there is live sport going on and they could be showing us the field event action?

                              8. Colin Jackson. It's a question in itself

                              9. Could Sue offer herself on a plate to Michael anymore? It's getting obscene...though it wouldn't surprise me if he'd taken her up on the offer...

                              10. Is anyone else getting pissed off with the sloppy commentary? Calling Dobrynska a drugs cheat was bad enough, but repeating about 5 times that a British athlete Natasha Danvers was an Olympic finalist in Athens is bloody appalling. Not to mention the ridiculous amounts of names being mispronounced- the worst two offenders being the inexplicable decision to change Yulia Nesterenko to "Nesternenka" or some such crap and today's sudden shift to "Kieran Clement" for the hurdles final. You shouldn't be getting athletes of this level incorrect...

Anyhoo, RANT OVER. For now...I'm sure I can think of something in time for the morning session...

                              Ok, think I'm done.
