  • Awful Coverage

This NBC coverage is awful, particularly on the west coast, where literally NOTHING is live in track. For those who get CBC, Eurosport, etc., I've extremely jealous.

It sure seems like NBC is sticking it to track for not changing the finals schedule to fit their prime time wishes. Vast majority of the coverage outside of finals, at least on the east coast, is on the late night show. Watching the women's 400 hurdles right now at 1:30 AM.

I get fewer and fewer cells each day, but I don't recall that NBC even asked track to change its schedule. Although I'm sure the answer would have been a hearty FOAD.

Yep, but they did ask for a change in the swimming finals schedule. And the LOC (London Organizing Committee) has already said that no way will they be changing finals to the morning and will have them at their traditional times.

Hopefully that means track will be live? It's late and I haven't thought about when stuff will be seen with the time change, etc. and so I may be way off...

Thanks but will it actually be shown live at that time? Sorry, should have been clearer.

I really hope it's live but think, like this year, we'll see absolutely nothing live on the west coast.

With a five-hour time difference between Greenwich time and EST, a 7 PM evening start in London would be 2 PM on the USA east coast. I'd hope that at least the weekends would be shown live.

By the way, if Rio gets the 2016 Olympics, it is 2 time zones ahead of the east coast. A 7 PM local start would be 5 PM on the USA east coast.

The above could change an hour if observance of daylight savings time is not observed. Anybody know if London and Rio have daylight savings time?

All Europe does. Brazil doesn't, to my knowledge.

Actually, some Brazilian states, including Rio de Janeiro, observe daylight savings time, but, since they're in the southern hemisphere, they do so from October to February. Presumably, this means that they would not do so during the Olympic Games.

Nothing is live on the East Coast, either. NBC is showing NOTHING in T&F live. Nothing except the women's marathon on Saturday night. NBC sucks. :x

To NBC prime time is prime time. Expect nothing live for Track except weekend stuff. Hopefully by then web wonkers will have figured out how to get live feeds around the blocks!!

NBC has managed to bring the spirit of "live" TV to an all-time low. Their coverage is all about marketing, making icons for future sales and voicing "live" over taped races and congratulating themselves on the back for predicting "exactly like I said it would happen."

Geez, do they think we are all retarded?

They're just trying to go "old school" on us and show what it was like at the 1912 Games

Massive blocks of time are being given over by NBC to other sports, but the time devoted to T&F is sporadic. NBC simply doesn't care. I can guess why.
In another vein I was annoyed when I heard Bob Costas earlier tonight trashing Bolt as acting in an insulting manner to his competitors and the Olympic spirit. I think NBC insults the entire sport of Athletics with its coverage, and, in spite of the money it paid, hasn't journalistically earned the right to be critical.

So I last turned to NBC at around 9am. just tuned in 12 hours later thinking they can't still be on Phelps. First thing I see is Phelps in the stands at the men's basketball game.

There are no words to describe how truly awful their track and field coverage has been.
