  • Jeff Demps and the fast running back.

Looks like Demps has already made a splash. A 62 yard TD run. If we go by "just" 100m times, he is the fastest man to ever line up at running back in football history. There has never been a sub10.00 running back. Not saying Ato Boldon etc never played street ball, I'm talking about at the NCAA level.

So who are/were the fastest running backs of all time? I'll start at the beginning or Buddy Young out of Illinois. No not going back to the days of Jim Thorpe. I'll start with Young who was an NCAA Champion.

    Then we had...

    Ollie Matson...U of SF
    Willie Galimore....Fla A&M
    Bobby Mitchell...Illinois
    Bob Hayes...Fla A&M
    Bob Paremore..Fla A&M
    Gale Sayers...Kansas
    Cyril Pinder....Illinois
    Travis Williams...ASU
    O.J.Simpson...USC
    Laverne Smith...Kansas
    Andrew Hopkins...Stephen F.Austin
    Eric Dickinson...SMU
    Eric Metcalf...Texas
    Curtis Dickey....Texas A&M
    Joe Delaney...NWLa
    James Owens...UCLA
    Darrin Nelson...Stanford
    Butch Woolfolk...Michigan
    Herchel Walker...Georgia
    Bo Jackson...Auburn
    Nap Kaufman...Washington
    Warrick Dunn...Fla St
    Sultan McCullough...USC
    Justin Fargas...USC
    Jamaal Charles...Texas
    C.J.Spiller....Clemson
    Javid Best....Cal
    Trindon Holliday...LSU
    Jeff Demps...Florida

As we know the real speed on a football field comes from the wide receivers and the guys who cover them. Those above are the exception.
