  • Do You Wear Glasses/Contacts/Have Normal Eye-site?

Asking, because I stopped wearing glasses about three months ago, and my site has seemed better without them. They didn:t correct 20/40 in the left eye, only made things worse. Likely will need them in the not-too-distant future, but have acclimated accordingly.

If you do wear glasses, when did you start, and did you ever not need them (a time when your eyes were corrected, and you discarded their use)?
If you wear contacts, why that choice instead of glasses?
If you have good eye-site, have you ever been told you may need glasses in the future?

I started wearing glasses just for reading ten years ago. Caused me very big problems beacause I forgot them everywhere. Now I wear glasses all the time
and I know they are on my nose all the time. Use only window glass on the upper half of the glasses because my eyes have no problem to see and read things far away.

Just made a test. I can read this message without glasses and could reed it, but had to sit more than one meter from the screen. Maybe I should put up an eye training program and sit a little bit closer to the screen each training session?

Went to the optician last week with a new prescription. A very expensive proposition, the ads are deceptive.

Had them since HS Sr. year and have got 2-3 changes since. I think I read where Tiger had Laser Surgery correcting to 20/10. If I had a spare 7k or so I wouldn't mind going for that.

Had perfect vision until I developed cataracts a few years back. Had surgery for those, and now am 100% dependent on glasses for reading and computer work. I get them cheap at the drug store ($10/pair) and must have at least 10 pairs, leaving a pair just about anywhere I ever might be where I need to read. Distance vision (anything beyond about three-four feet) is perfect.

Started in 7th grade. Growth related near-sightedness. My prescription hasn't changed since I reached adulthood.

I've worn glasses since I was in grade school. Prescription was stable for 15-20 years beginning in my early 20's, but has changed since then, and continues to change. Lens technology has changed a lot, too--the light, plastic lenses that I wear now are much more comfortable than the heavy glass that was all there was when I was younger.

I noticed I couldn't see the board well in 7th grade and had to get glasses. Hated them! When I started playing soccer in 9th grade, I broke a pair a month. Finally when I turned 16, I begged my parents to let me get contact lenses. Went to the eye doctor and he said you had to be 18 to get them, because they were so 'dangerous' (there were hard plastic back then and could cut your eyeball). I said I couldn't afford to buy new glasses every month (soccer) so he relented. I loved them even though they made my eyes very tired by evening. One of them would routinely pop out in sports, and we did the hands and knees thing for me a lot.

Now I've worn them for 40 years (!!) and they really have made a big difference in my life. I'm still a 'high-movement' kinda guy and glasses just wouldn't have been able to keep up with me. Thank you, Accuvue!

Agree, I will never change back to the heavy glass. My glasses are also progressive and photochromatic ,so I don´t need to bring extra sunglasses.
                      Very comfortable.

I've got progressives, but I've passed on the photochromatic. To me, they sometimes look like slightly shaded sunglasses when you're indoors in good lighting. And they never seem to be quite as dark as a real sunglasses in the sun. I carry sunglasses when I need them. No big deal.

I've often wondered - why do people who wear glasses NOT get contacts?
