I saw a similar game when I was in college around 1980. The lazy assassins tended to do better, because they weren't out chasing people down. I didn't participate, as it seemed kind of silly, not to mention time consuming.
There's something disconcerting about this, that I didn't feel when Assassin was being played when I was college in the early 1980s. With mass killings on high school and college campuses too common and teens violently ganging up on and beating peers as they videotape the beating for nonchalant submission to Youtube, could we be a few short steps from a shadowy game of Assassin that features, instead of a $500 prize and waterguns, a $500,000 prize and real bullets?
