shoud be here come tommorow :

    http://www2.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports

joe is a heavy favorite & probably shoud win a close decision

it is just a pity this is a slightly shot jones he's facing, cos at his peak, roy was possibly the finest fighter i've seen outside of tommy hearns & virtually unbeatable upto 175 unless you had dynamite in either hand & caught him with a lucky shot

joe is not a bad fighter, but afer following his career, i'd have to say he is a level below the legends of jones, hopkins & toney upto 168/175

i coud go on about about roy as the best amateur to ever fight in the olympics, a jab up there with the sugar rays/hearns ( if he cared to use it ), top 3 all-time in hand speed ( up with sugar ray L/hearns ), devastating hitting power in both hands, magical footwork, etc, but it's easier just to go to you-know-where & c&p in

Roy Jones Jr. - The Unstoppable

    No Jones fan here!

While I'll agree with your assessment about his talents, at least as evidenced in his early to mid-career, he ramains, in my opinion, one of the saddest examples of wasted talent (and there are many!) in the sport/profession.

Early on he could do it all. He was a superlative boxer and one who could recognize and capitlize on an opening/opportunity in a flash. He could punch with either hand from any position all while stayin' out of harm's way.

But once he joined the HBO stable, it went quickly downhill, as it often does with "their" fighters. He upped the show boating, and though still winning fights, was fight-by-fight less impressive 'till lesser fighters could actually stand in with him. And then he went ino a professional coma, fighting a string of tomato cans that had no business fighting anybody in the top 25 let alone him. He just looked bad, fight-after-fight, at least compared to the "real" Roy Jones. He went years without ever fighting any number of the truly deserving challengers, dodging one-after-one like bullets while his career languished. He had become a bum.

Sure, he's come out of vitrual retirement a few times, even looking somewhat decent in flashes, but his best days're now long gone. And while Jones would have handily beaten JC in his glory days, probably dispatching him by the middle rounds, the good-but-not-great JC'll beat him handily on Saturday night. It'll likely go the distance, but it'll be lopsided.

I'd bet Roy'd love to go back several years 'n do it all again, right this time around.

        Eldrick, you can't be serious!

He beat John Ruiz. Is there anybody that hasn't beaten John Ruiz? Whenever the guy looses, Don King just strips the winner of the title 'n gives it back to Ruiz. The guy virtually guarantees that the title will change hands whenever he defends it. Built-in "interest", if you can call it that. Pretty pathetic!

No, Roy Jones was not, nor ever will be, the legitimate Heavyweight Champion, whatever that is, anymore. He was a great middleweight for a time, a decent light heavyweight, even fighting a coupla valid contenders: unlike him. But he was never great at that weight. The decline had started by then.

But I must revise my predicion of a "lopsided" decision in favor of JC. It'll likely be decisive, but not really lopsided. Jones'll figure out how to hang-on 'n smother the guy just enough to keep 'im from runnin' up the score. Jones works for HBO, afterall, so you know it'll be magically closer on the scorecards than in anybody else's perception. And ain't that really matters in any HBO fight? What a smelly operation that has become in the last several years. Boxing at its worst!!

          you are deluded

ruiz was a "bum" when he got whacked by tua in 1 round back in early '90s

          but

he came back to win wba title

losing it to roy appeared to be a shocking devaluation of his talent, but ruiz went on to fight for it again & lose an arguable decision to 7'2 ruskie ( who had claim to best guy around considering wlad & sammy were best others then - 7'2 wouda probably killed them )

vitali is best by far now, but ruiz is little/no behind wlad/sammy for "2nd best heavy alive" making ruiz a serious talent & meaning roy did indeed have a legit, hisoric win

Eldrick, no offense buddy, but you're not really a very serious boxing fan, are you?

No matter, we share an addiction to track and field, the best sport of all!

Have to agree with Eldy here, Ruiz was a very skilled fighter, I can remember seeing him fight in Boston in his early days, he was an immense cruiser talent. Stepped up in weight to make more $$s but was always had the frame of a cruiser. I was surprized when Roy beat him. Roy is a giant and I would not be surprised if he beats Calzahge.

I wasted my money watching That Calz. dude the last fight. The guy is busy but there is no power in his punches. We thought he punched like a girl. I hope Jonesy destroys him.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't know ANY of these names! In the '60s and '70s, it really mattered who was heavyweight champion. Now......?

                              Exactly.

I've had to endure dozens of Brits coming over here to fight for two decades now. Here's my evaluation. Lennox aside, they're all crap. Most haven't a clue about defense and are usually hopelessly one dimensional. The worst was obviously the Prince, who was a total embarrassment. Frank Bruno a close second. I'm only thankful that the Khan kid was recently knocked out in 30 seconds over there, and not here. I'm used to being ridiculed by my American boxing fan friends, but enough is enough!

I've seen Joe's last three fights. He was impressive against Lacy and Kessler, less so against Hopkins (like squak, I thought he was slapping, not punching). But then Hopkins was awesome against Pavlic a few weeks ago, a fight in which I thought he'd get decked. Had he suddenly improved or was Joe more effective than it appeared (wth were those pitter pat punches about?) After Jones was knocked out and looked like he was having a seizure in the ring, I assumed he'd never fight again. But he's done ok in his comeback fights. Tonight, I have no idea what to expect...

That Ruiz and Jones were once heavyweight champs only reinforces what a joke that division has become...
