  • Ever feel like a thread killer?

There have been a ton of threads on this board that I end up being the last one to post anything on. It's part of the reason I really don't post much although being a member for a number of years. Do you ever feel like you killed a thread? I guess if no one answers, I have mine.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Dude, you're not even in the Top 20 of thread-killers and I can't even remember one you killed. I can't speak for others, but I've always seen you as a positive element here.

Hey Marlow, don't take it as me feeling sorry for myself. Sometimes, I just think I don't know when to quit.

I kill more over at letsrun. The threads I usually kill go something like:
        1) Question asked
        2) A bunch of idle and clueless speculation about the answer
        3) I provide the answer because I use google to look it up (or pela's lists)
        4) Thread ends

I also purposely try to kill "I'm going to Vegas where can I run" threads.

No, Dietmar, you are not alone in your paranoia. .I made the same observation on this forum once and confessed it was giving me an inferiority complex.

I felt much better after the denizens herein assured me it was not a complex, it was just that I really was inferior.

Killing a thread is not a big deal. Every thread has to end somewhere (if it isn't about iPods), and if you post enough, you're going to be the last post on some threads. How about when you open a thread because you've found something interesting, and NOBODY replies at all. I've had that happen. Doesn't really bother me, but sometimes makes me think I've wasted my time. Then again, if wasting time were really a big concern, I wouldn't . . . . oh, perish the thought.

And Dietmar and lonewolf, I have never made the observation but have felt the same way. Many of my posts seem to not get answered or to end the thread.

I've had a few of those. As have many others. Worse, if you look at the views, you see that sometimes no one even looks at them! Now there's an ego killer. :P

having been blessed with a profound sense of my own importance I try to make sure that others get the benefit of me having the last word Deitmar and lonewolf dont even register on such a rickter scale.

(and if that is not the last word this thread should never have been started)
... nothing really ever changes my friend, new lines for old, new lines for old.

There is an easy way to confirm your fears. On the message board index page, click on "View your posts." On what percentage of old threads did you have the last word?

Wow! I had no idea that this happened so often. (Nor, for that matter, did I realize that you could search for that information.)

Good way to do the analysis. I tried it and of the last 25 threads i have participated in Squakee and tandfman are tied at three a piece with thread killer status (they are the only two that appear more than once on the list). Although Squackees post above was one of those, so I guess he is down to 2.

Of course it would be more scientific to look at threads from a year ago. Regardless, with this flawed analysis, and ignoring outliers, it looks like we are pretty even at sharing the thread killer status.
