  • Robocalls made in USATF presidency race

Deena Kastor has endorsed Stephanie Hightower for USATF president, and Deena has recorded a message for a robocall now going out to certain USATF members. I don't know yet whether Stephanie paid for or authorized the robocalls, but reaction is universally negative (at least on my blog and the USATF Associations listserve).

In the course of looking for Deena's email address (which I still haven't found), I came across a campaign Web site for Dee Jensen of North Dakota. This may be a first for USATF.

In any case, the USATF presidency seems to be important enough that folks go out of their way to publicize their credentials and stands. Heck, they'll even talk to me!

I wrote to Deena Kastor and late Wednesday night I got this reply from her:

Thanks for the email. To answer your questions, I wrote a letter in support of Stephanie as president and was asked by someone in her campaign if I would be willing to record my letter for a robocall. I am not being paid in any way for voicing my support for Stephanie, I just think she will be a great leader for USATF. As for the phone calls, I have no idea where the numbers were taken from and I only assume it is from the USATF database. I hope this helps and I hope to see you at the annual meeting in Reno.

      Here is Deena's letter, BTW:
