Saw the trailer for the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (sc-fi classic!) and even with Keanu (wassup duuuuude?) Reeves as Klaatu, it looks good. I understand that the cautionary tale has evolved from a nuclear weapon parable to an environmental one, which updates it well. Gort remains essentially unchanged, so that's good, but the basic premise seems to have morphed, so that will be interesting as well. Even though the original is from the early Cold War - 1951 - it sounds as if they have done a good job 'reimagining' it. The tag-line (thread title) remains intact!

Saw it tonight - howlingly funny . . . unintentionally!

It's not just a remake of a 50s B-movie - it IS a 50s B-movie! The special (sic) effects are cheesy, Keanu is at his robotic best, and the premise is so ham-handedly 'enviro-friendly' I wanted to litter all the way home.

This one will die on the vine quickly, once word gets out.

Of course, I was highly entertained! :wink:

I once read an interview with Patricia Neal, who played the female lead in the original version of this film, and she said it was her toughest role because the lines she was supposed to read and the situations she was supposed to act out were to ludicrous to her that she wasn't able to keep from laughing and had to do multiple takes of lots of scenes.

Never seen a fall like the director, writter of The Sixth Sense has taken. He went from a 3:48 miler to a stumbling bumbiling drunk in combat boots hitting the tape in 2 daze and change.

Rennie was superb! Cant imagine anyone else in that part.

There is mixed reviews on the new version, at least they are mixed and not all bad.

I remember him in " The Third Man" ( I think that's it), character named Harry Lime.

Saw the movie last night - I thought it was quite good, fairly eerie. Keanu Reeves is well suited to that kind of role and there was an effective clautrophobic feel.
