another columnist (while jumping on Texas pretty good) from same paper says it's the human element, not the BCS computers that are screwing things up.

I got no dog in this fight and I used to think the BCS was the least of all evil solutions, but Texas got hosed bad and I think Obama is gonna get his way sooner than anyone expected. The Big-12 South is the perfect storm to kill the BCS.

When we go to a playoff, as we eventually will, assume it is 8 teams, which is the most common # I hear bandied about - won't there be the same arguments about the 8th and 9th place teams, and how the 9th place team got screwed? Of course there will. And then what will happen, probably around the 5th or 6th year of the new format - say around 2017 - there will be calls to expand the play-offs to 16 teams. That will last for a few years, then the 17th team will get screwed and there will be calls to allow all D1 teams into the play-offs. Sound familiar in any way.

We may have teams complaining, but they won't have a sliver of ground to stand on. The goal of a playoff would be to crown a legitimate national champion, period. The 9th place team will have no reasonable claim to that, whereas right now the 3rd or 4th place teams in the BCS standings usually can make a legitimate case they're getting screwed.

Read an article yesterday that if OU beats Missouri and Florida beats Alabama, there may still be too big of a gap for Florida to jump Texas and it's an OU-UT rematch in the BCS championship. That scenario would make the BCS explode.

That would be nice to finally shut some Longhorns up.

Did Texas Tech get hosed too? They happen to have the exact same record in conference play. If you take Tech out of the equation because OU beat them too badly, now that's saying something in of itself, isn't it?

No. When you suffer a blow-out loss, you forfeit your right to the NatChamp game.

And there you said it! A team blew out the #2 ranked team in the country and yet you think it won't benefit them in the polls.

Attention: Anyone who would like to get an easy degree, go to Texas. Apparently if you don't like the way something turns out you can change it. Even mathmatical equations. For example, It seems a three way tie can easily be changed to a two way tie it it benefits you more. So go get failing grades in all your classes. They will change them to A's just for you.

You lost me. My 'logic' (and again, I've got no druthers here, and I think the SEC winner (Fla!!) would rather see Okla - no diss) is that we eliminate TT because they got blown out. Now we've got Tex - Ok left. Who won in the head-to-head? If indeed the BCS ends up with Ok #1 and Tex #2, the BCS will suffer an irreparable melt-down.

On paper, its a three-way-tie. There's just no other way around it.

BS. Not if the name of the team is oklahoma and the year is 2003.

OK. Please enlighten me. I just tried to read the SEC tiebreaker procedures and don't see that they wouldn't end up defaulting to BCS standings in this case also.
