    Company towns, company stores, company housing, modern automated assembly lines, highly dependent workers with few options who count themselves lucky to have a job... what goes around comes around. Sounds like American industry circa 1908.

    What I don't get is how our big three have spent the last 30 years outsourcing jobs and losing money, while the Japanese have been building factories here in the states and making money.

    Yeah, I know the big three are saddled with bloated union contracts and pension plans -- that's their cover story. But for decades they managed to function profitably and pay workers a living wage at the same time.
