  • The Bowl Line-up

    Bad year for bowl games

Rose……...Penn State vs. USC – good match-up but SC should romp
Orange…...Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati - ugh
Cotton…....Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss – TT by 30
    Sugar……..Utah vs. Alabama – Bama by 30
Fiesta……..Texas vs. Ohio State – Tex by 30
NatChamp..Oklahoma vs. Florida - I wanted Tex, but this’ll do.

Yeah, you don't always get what you want or what's best. However, the NCAA coaches and most of the sports analyst's agree this is the premier match-up.

Regarding Ohio State, I'd be the first one to tell you they really do not deserve to be in the Fiesta Bowl ahead of Boise State, but their fans saved them. The Buckeyes are generally considered to have the best travelling fan base to bowl games, and as we all know it's all about the money for the bowls, especially the BCS big boys. Fortunately for them Ohio State did just enough by staying in the top 10 to allow the Fiesta committee to screw over Boise.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how Ohio State's defense handles Texas' offense. The 30 point prediction is laughable with the Buckeye's stout defense. If the highly-touted Pryor chooses to finally come of age this will be an interesting game, and maybe the birth of a new star.

As for Cincinnati, wow. Brian Kelly is arguably the finest young coach on the scene(along with Urban Meyer, also a native Cincinnatian). For him to have the Bearcats on the brink of the top 10, and likely favorites to win the Orange Bowl, in two years is nothing short of amazing. And his statements this week(repeated tonight on Fox's telecast) that he considers Cincinnati a destination gig, not a stepping stone, have earned him the keys to this city and it's heart. For a town long starved of professional success by owners who couldn't give a damn about winning, he's just what we needed.

It's good to be an Ohioan. Better to be a Cincinnatian.

Dreading seeing TOSU getting woodshedded for the 3rd straight year in a BCS game.

              Weeeeeeee'll see. :P
They haven't seen anything remotely like the Texas attack. Y'think they had trouble with USC?. This is far more dire for them.

They had trouble with USC because their All-America running back didn't play and they were starting a true freshman QB in the LA coliseum. Predictably their offense stalled, with 3 turnovers, and the defense had to defend a short field all game. Had that game been played in November it would have been a helluva lot more interesting, especially if it had been on a neutral field.

Do you mean the offensive attack? Surely, you don't mean TX' defense, right?

                    Here's the problem TOSU faces:

TOSU rushes well and Tex defends the rush well.
TOSU doesn't pass much and Tex has seen the best passing attacks in the nation.
Tex rushes well and OSU defends the rush well.
Tex passes superbly and OSU is good against the pass, but doesn't see it enough.

So it's a wash in 2 categories, but Tex has a distinct advantage in 2 categories.
TOSU will die by the pass. Badly.

The only issue with that is that TX WR crew is young and inexperienced. A decent secondary can force Colt out of the pocket, but you better have your corners and line ready to deal with him on the ground.

Correction - the WERE inexperienced. Colt & Co. have proven their mettle. I still think they are better than OK (duh). OK had a good day against Tex and lost. Tex had a crummy day against TT and lost on a 'fluke' (?). I am not even a Tex fan; I just think they're that good.

Correction - OU lost their best lineman (Ryan Reynolds) in the opening minutes of that game which opened up the very routes that McCoy exploited. Despite that, OU led most of that game until the final few minutes. Also, Demarco Murray (their premier rusher) was dealing with injuries. TX was losing to TT for MOST of that game.
