  • End of Year Geography Quiz, Question 15:

    15. What are the world's northernmost and southernmost capitals?

  • #2
Rekyjavik (sp?) has to be in the running for northernmost

and I will take a wild guess that Stanley (Falkland Isl) is the southernmost???

My National Geographic map doesn't list Stanley as a capital (and neither does the quiz answer), so I guess colonies/protectorates/etc. don't count.

Aha, so the Falklands haven't achieved independence...

then I have to go with New Zealand's cap of Wellington, which I believe is farther south than South Africa

Before we can move on, somebody has to step and knock themselves out of 16 by naming both the correct answers.

I was momentarily "had" when, partway up a long climb that would top out 7000 ft above sea level only some 10 miles inland from Milford Sound on NZ's South Island, my Kiwi partner deadpanned, "Hey, if it's clear today we may be able to see Australia." DrJay, geography neurons momentarily disabled, slightly incredulous, and being had: "Really??" Kiwi friend: Snickers, rolls eyes, shakes head. DrJay, coming to his senses:"F**k you."
