Remember, though, Dick Pound's greatest quote ever, referring to the Maldives not competing at the 1988 Olympics (a titular boycott) - "The Maldives? Isn't that only a country at low-tide?"

OK, then I take my defense of his wordsmithing in regards to Canada. He is just a jerk.
All that I have heard and read of Pound makes me think of him as an abrasive, self-aggrandizing idiot. With due apologies to Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks, I am ashamed that Pound is a Canadian.

He's far from an idiot. He is usually described as the smartest guy in the room. But he can be very abrasive. Unlike most of us, he has no filter at all. He says exactly what he feels. Had he been more politically correct and a bit more of a schmoozer, he would definitely have been IOC President.
