  • Best & Worst Movies of 2008

    Can't have a Dec 31 without this!

    Best for me:

    Dark Knight
    Iron Man
    Wall-E
    Shine a Light
    Quantum of Solace
    Redbelt

    Worst:

    Margot at the Wedding
    Rachel Getting Married
(see a pattern in my 2 best and 2 worst ? )
    Cloverfield
    Rambo
    The Savages
    Speed Racer
    The Visitor
    Don't Mess With Zohan

Never heard of Redbelt, so I'll have to check it out. I think "Hancock" is my favorite at this moment, and "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" ranks towards the bottom of my list.

It's small budget Rocky without the schmaltz. I agree that Hancock was fun and IJ&tCS was not.

I'm a big fan of David Mamet's work, but I've rented "Redbelt" twice
without ever watching the whole thing. My favorite movies of 2008 were the first one I saw this year-No Country for Old Men and the last one I've watched-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I just saw Wanted with A. Jolie, and except for one scene towards the end, it was great. It definately moves to my favorites list.

Local critic's 25-worst list (with some savage commentary on each):

(he hasn't done a deep best list yet, but calls Revolutionary Road the topper)

              10 Made of Honor
              9 Vantage Point
              8 Drillbit Taylor
              7 Get Smart
              1 Australia
All of these were very watchable (not gonna win any Oscars, but enjoyable in their own ways). Critical opinions (including my own) say MUCH more about the critic than the material, be it music, painting, literature, dance, whatever. What it usually says about me is that I have a very broad sense of humor (which does NOT include boorish movies like Borat), and I'm easily amused. What it says about the above critic is that not much in life seems to please him. There were some truly dreadful movies out there and he chose THESE?!?! Too bad.

Pride and Glory truly was an awful movie. Maybe one of the most offensive of all-time.

                I loved Australia.

I don't even remember if it came out in 2008 or 2007, but The Happening is the worst movie I have ever watched, hands down.
