Congo and Zaire are two distinct nations.

I thought Zaire changed their name back to Congo. So now there are two countries called Congo. One is Republic of Congo and the other is simply Congo, or something silly like that. Off to check google.

There is no Zaire any more... it is now Democratic Republic of the Congo. Then there also is Republic of the Congo.

After checking wikipedia (take it for what it's worth):
Democratic Republic of Congo was Zaire, but changed names in 1997. Not to be confused with Republic of Congo.

And it's not on the equator AFAIK. And neither is Somalia.

There are other countries in Africa that the equator passes through. I believe Equatorial Guinea is one, then there is Gabon (?) and Congo (as well as the DR of Congo, aka Zaire).

In Oceania, I'm pretty sure about Papua New Guinea and Kiribati, not so sure about other countries.

We are on the same page McGato. I posted about Zaire plus 2 Congos, then immediately realized I had a duplication. I edited my posting at the same time you posted... I did NOT see yours first !
