I've seen videos like these at the touring version of the Canadian "Banff Film Fesitval". The adventure films and other films are fantastic. I highly recommend seeing them, if the tour's films are shown in your area.
One of the films was of a premier female BASE jumper from Europe. It was a bio of her, the preparation needed to do it, and her injuries received. The emphasis was, it is a choice that she made to do, she lost many cojumping friends to accidents and serious injury during her life. It wasn't if, but when you will get hurt doing this. She ended up a paraplegic.
I've seen a lot of crazy stuff from years of climbing and reading about it and its related (loosest sense of the word) disciplines, but this takes the cake. I wonder how many have died doing this? The margin for error is pretty much zero.
Here's another "sport" I stumbled upon a week ago, and I thought it was insane, but not as nuts as wingsuit flying. "Speed-flying" descents of the South Face of Aconcagua (approx 9000ft) and the Eiger, first down the west flank, then swinging out over the North Face:
At least the wingsuit guys won't cost the taxpayers any money, they'll just be taken to the morgue. The speed-flying dudes might survive and end up in the ICU, depending on where they crash.
I really wish I could see the reaction of the people in the cars at the 3:25 mark when the guy buzzes by the road. I surprised they were able to navigate that hairpin turn.
BillVol: They have a parachute on they use to land.
