In 9th grade, a bunch of us in the "Math Club" wrote \pi to 1000 decimal places on the blackboard. I still remember: 3.14159265357828... (I think... I have better things to do now, and have Maple/Mathematica to give me \pi to however many decimal places!).

One of my housemates 1st year med school was a math grad student, nice guy but a bad stuttering problem, memorized Pi to about 900 places. I see on the link that he was probably pretty far down the alltime list as the WR is about 42,000 places.
