I agree, sad to see it gone, I had been reading that board for a few years before posting. I hope Tom can work something out and relaunch.

Hopefully there wasn't a no-compete clause in the contract when he sold the site to Wasserman.

They had a very active message board too - about halfway between T&FN and letsrun. I looked at their top posters and here's about what their top individual posters' numbers would look like if their board went back to Apr 2003, like this one does.

          1. 36,000
          2. 33,000
          3. 24,000
          4. 24,000
          5. 23,000

In other words, lots of mes! :P  8-) :?

I'm obviously very new to this forum (I found this forum a few days ago after trackshark said they were closing down (Yes, I somehow actually didn't realize TFN had a forum even though I've been checking times and whatnot on the main TFN page for many years, lol, I dunno how, but I seriously just never noticed))

Anyway, so I was just wondering if you could explain the whole 08 Oct 2005 thing. Did they wipe the servers and restart the forum on that day or something? Why do so many of the longtime posters have that day as their join date, and nobody have one earlier than that. Thanks.

the servers are based on the "creationist" chip

" & the almighty created the world 6,000y ago & the t&f message board on the 8th+ day on 5th october 2005 & nothing existed before"

epistle of kull the conqueror chapter 1, verse 2:P

The Rapture took place on that day but some mistakes were made and we were all sent back.

IIRC, that was the day the Message Boards switched to the phpBB format. Before then, some other software platform was used. You'll occasionally see some threads bumped that started before October 8, 2005. The threads were migrated, so that the history of the Boards was not lost. But all of the user registrations started anew on that date.

First, post I can find on the T&FN forums was April 16, 2003 08:27:59 AM PDT. The old board was a flavor of Jive. A lot of board users wanted something with more features and common features. So we converted to phpBB.

I too am sorry to see Trackshark go. A very good site for results, but I never participated in the forums there.

As far as forums go- and I realize I am going slightly off topic here- TFN forums have a very high substance/chaff ratio - really appreciate that. I guess that is what one would expect from the "bible" .

It is a bit intimidating though for a newcomer ( even for a 30+ year track fan at Hayward Field) posting on this site as the collective knowledge is very high indeed! 8-)

I actually wish there was more traffic here so I wouldn't have to bother with Letsrun. (shudder)
