  • 10 ways to make football better

    1.Div 1 playoffs.

    2.NFL rookies sign on at a certain $$$ per round, two year contract. After the two years..THEN.. talk the big $$$ if worth it. All these guys are studs in college.

    3.All kickoffs must be returned. No more taking a knee. If you have a kicker kicking it 9 yards deep in the endzone...cool!

    4.No more Michigan vs App State. You start off playing in conference.

    5.All NCAA players will do 4 years at the college of their choice. Yep, a contract is signed. Without the school the athlete had no platform to perform upon. Sounds fair to me. If a guy quits school, he cannot enter the NFL for two years.

    6.Get rid of the AFC/NFC in the NFL. Have a system where any two teams could meet up in the Superbowl. For years the "real" big game was the AFC Championship game. If New England can beat the Colts what chance does Chicago stand?

    7.No field goals until the last two minutes of a half/game. More on the real players less on a little kicker.

    8.A kick return for a td counts for 7 points and a 2 point try.Make it a real big deal, because it is.

    9.Get rid of the Pro Bowl.

    10.Only two NFL preseason games per team.

    I know I would enjoy things more if the above was put in place.Oh yeah one more...

    11. Wide receivers are not allowed to talk to the media.

    1. Agreed
    2.Nope, restraint of free trade. I agree some rookies are overpaid but what if a stud is permanently disabled before he has a chance to prove himself? If the owners are willing to risk big money, power to 'em.
    3. So what happens if your kicker can kick it 11 yards deep?
    4. True, sometimes results in boring mismatch. Sometime not. If the little guy is willing to take a whupping for a big payday and the big guy is willing to pay for a low risk W, so be it. I don't think a padded W-L record fools anyone.
    5. I like this idea.
    6. Great idea!
    7. Nah...
    8. Welllll..????...
    9. Ahh, who cares?
    10. ditto #9
    11. Why limit the gag to wide receivers?

    I would like to add:
    #12. Eliminate conference ch game between division winners.

      How about eliminate the first three quarters? I do enjoy the last quarter though. :twisted:

        Interesting list except #5. College coaches have been known to lie and be jerks. Athletes need an out from a truly bad situation.

          Let's alter the offside rule to resemble the futbol offside: If a receiver gets behind the cornerback before the ball is thrown the play is blown dead.

            I know that infidels don't understand soccer's off-side rule, but without it, the forwards would just camp out in the goal and every play would be a long-ball into the box. The cognate in football would be that there is no off-side at the snap and receivers could just stand in the end zone for every play. You really want a Hail Mary every play?

              Getting rid of the Pro Bowl is a good idea.

              And the preseason too.

                Why? No one is making anyone pay attention to either one, are they?
                The Pro Bowl is merely a fun week for the players and fans at the end of the season. The pre-season is just for coaches to make cuts.

                  Not that I know of.

                  The reason I believe they should get rid of them is because...

                  I don't watch them.

                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
                    The NFL shouldn't have to reward a player for what he did in college. Yes the kid showed potential as a collegiate athlete. That's as far as it needs to go. The kid doesn't have to play in the NFL, that's his choice and he knows the nature of the beast so he'll have to roll the dice himself. Yes injury is part of the deal. If he signs on with a team he agreed to take his chances.
                    The NFL needs to have a certain rate per round. Yes a first rounder will get more than a second rounder and so on. The first pick won't however make more than the last pick in the 1st round. The way it's being done today is totally ridiculous. Paying guys who haven't done a thing vs NFL competition as much as they do is crazy.
                    Imagine a 10 year vet watching some kid who hasn't done a thing signing for more than he's making, as he sits there with a reconstructed knee, a shoulder out of wack, a broken nose, an ankle that will never be the same and a finger twice the size it ought to be,
                    Something is broke and needs fixing.
                      I have a boss who is a jerk so do I just quit?
                      These college kids will meet jerks in their life, it's simply part of it. The school is giving the kid a place to show what they can do, without that chance there is no NFL contract. There needs to be some agreement that gurantees "both" parties will benifit from the connection. The school signed the kid because they needed him, the kid signed on because he needed a place to play. That's a ...deal. So make the...deal..a two way street instead of what we are seeing today.
                      If we had a situation where a kid was really all that disappointed with the deal and felt he had been lied to and mistreated, then the NCAA could look at things and make some ruling.
                        Some day (surprised it hasn't already happened) some star player (I guess they all are at this game) is going to seriously get hurt in that silly game. That's what it will take to get rid of that yawner.
                        Once upon a time there was a game called ...The College All Star Game...here we saw some collegiate all stars take on the NFL Champion. Now which team was more stoked for that? The pros couldn't care less. Yes the college guys did win a couple. Just an example of how wrong something can be.Add the Pro Bowl.
                        I do think the NFL needs a couple games to get things together. Two!!!!!!!
                          In the real world you have that option.
                          Furthermore, making the player who leaves a school wait two years before he can enter the NFL draft would involve collusion between the NCAA and the NFL The current rule is part of the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the Players' Union and is a simple age requirement. It has nothing with the relationship between football players and their college coaches.
                            Texas, two points/questions: 1) How do you account for the military reserve who may get a call of duty, and returns state-side to head straight to the NFL? Similarly, those who do mormon missions and may opt to hit the NFL ranks instead of returning to NCAA two years older, but only one grade advanced? 2) What happens when the university shuts down the team three years into the athlete's contract?
                              Aparently you're missing the point. Well aware of how things currently are..ok? I'm talking about making some changes and yes we do see that happening in both college/pro football. So it's not unrealistic to talk about more changes. Changes that would in my opinion make more sense than what we see today.
                              One example...
                              Alex Smith has done what as a 49er? Try...nothing! In college he played at Utah, now what collegiate powers does Utah play? So a guy looking good vs.......... See how ridiculous the $$$$$ he got for signing with the Niners was. Now they have reconstructed his contract because they blew it.
