  • the best movies of the decade

With still much of the final year to go (and don't start any dumb fights about when decades start and end!), critic in the local fishwrap has issued his list of the 10 best movies of the "aughts" (and actors and acrtresses):

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 010&sc=361

In response, one of his compatriots has done likewise:

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/par ... y_id=38038

caution: a lot of not-your-average-mainstream stuff in here.

Sheesh, both lists suck for very different reasons. I got 2 movies that blow away all those flicks. The Patriot- epic Open Range- one of the great westerns.
    phsstt!

I hadn't thought much about it previously, but based on these lists maybe I haven't seen a good new movie in 10 years! These choices are pathetic. The 40-year Old Virgin? V for Vendetta? Maybe Born Losers wasn't so bad after all.

        From the article:

Mick LaSalle's best movies of the decade
        1. The New World
OMG! It was one of the most dunder-headed movies of the decade! This guy musta been smoking some serious sh*t when he saw it!

Being average main stream would negate any movie from being in my top ten.

From his list I like: "Lives of others." My choices would be: "The Departed":
"The fog of war": "No country for old men" : "Apocalypto" : "After the wedding" :"I've loved you so long": "Speak to her" :"Pan's Labryinth": "The sea inside":

I agree about Memento, I didn't realize it was in 2000.

This year only has two so far that I'd consider for my Decade Top 10 - Star Trek and The Hangover. Others contenders:

                    2000 - Billy Elliot
                    2001 - Memento
                    2002 - Bourne Identity
                    2003 - LotR3, Seabiscuit
                    2004 - Dodgeball
                    2005 - Batman Begins, Hitch
                    2006 - Casino Royale
2007 - Die Hard, Transformers, 3:10 to Yuma, Juno, Once
                    2008 - Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wall-E

This is not necessarily a 'best-made' list, just the ones I admire the most.

LotR wins obviously for 2001 and 2003

                      Dodgeball ... genius!
... nothing really ever changes my friend, new lines for old, new lines for old.

Watched Eastern Promises last night. Not sure it doesn't make my top 10 (although anything for such a listing always requires a second watch, at least). For 95% of the movie it's a slam-dunk entry, but I found the close a bit weak.

                        Mortensen's performance was mind-boggling.

It has been quite a while since I saw Eastern Promises and while, as usual, I don't remember the details, I do remember it ranked high on my personal list of favored movies.

Likewise. The fight scene in the baths was epic!
