  • A new Democrat

I know we shouldn't talk politics, but the fact that PA's Arlen Specter is switching to the Democratic Party is big news.

WASHINGTON – Veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania disclosed plans Tuesday to switch parties, a move intended to boost his chances of winning re-election next year that also will push Democrats within one seat of a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

[]"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans,"

As soon as Franken is able to take his seat from Minnesota that will make 60.

Like I said he wants to get re-elected.

Now his if his philosophy is to get re-elected (which it is for all politicians), then maybe he's being sincere.

"I'm a democrat because they're gonna win."

Over the last few years, Specter said that so many of the moderate Republicans have changed their party affiliation to Democrat or Independent that the only folks left in Pennsylvania's Republican Party are Dittoheads and he can't rely on them to get nominated. And since Pennsylvania doesn't have open primaries, he decided to go where his voters are.

This doesn't change anything. Specter was a RINO anyway.

You're overlooking the possibility that they may move even further to the left once they're no longer susceptible to pressure from their Republican colleagues.

                            Let me see...

Specter is the senior Senator from Pennsylvania who consistently won primaries and general elections as a republican for 30 years, but he was a democrat all along? :?

So the switch is a formality that doesnt really matter?

Thats seeing the glass as half full.
