  • Rename: Ghazal Omid on the Iranian Revolution

If you have a passing interest in current events in Iran, my expatriate Iranian source, Ghazal Omid, author of "Living in Hell", will be on Geraldo tonight.
She has direct television from Iran and personal live contact with people on the ground in the incipient revolution.

Despite underwhelming response to this thread, I want to inform that Ghazal Omid will testify before Congress on C-Span at 3:00 PM ET tomorrow and will be on Rivera again mid-week.
This is not US politics. This is not some "think tank" opinion or State Department "expert" who reviewed the history of Persia. This is street level stuff direct from Iran from a political refugee who survived the 1979 revolution and has direct current contact with family and sources in Iran, from Evin Prison to the Iranian Assembly.

Watch her and draw you own conclusion. She is an Iranian born Canadian citizen and would fit right in at a Caucasian prom as a dark exotic beauty.

Surprisingly lame reactions from the "civilized" countries.

Iran (Persia) was civilized about 2000 years before Europe and 3000 years before USA (about).

There is no reason to make jokes about these by far more educated and intelligent men/women than the average american.! They are on our side!

The mullas on the other hand are the Hells Angels of Islam kidnapping the religion for their own benefits.Fakes x 100000

I don't know what happened to the C-Span broadcast of the Iraninan issue acheduled for 3PM ET today in the House of Representatives. I have been watching three hours of drivel about the pro and cons of High Speed Trains.
Maybe they called it off when the street demonstrations tailed off. I will find out tonight.

This is interesting. Maybe we get more photos an "youtube" clips than published in the US? (in Northern Europe)

This is in Tehran. There have been no demonstrations in Qom, which is the "Rome" of Shia Islam

But what percent is Mecca's population of Saudi Arabia? I think the point lonewolf was trying to make is that Qom is the spiritual center of Shiism in a country that is a Shiite theocracy.

Exactly right, Jazzcyclist, Qom is in rather remote southern Iran and is the site of many Islamic universities with a high concentration of mullahs who are not inclined to rock the boat. The real action is in the larger populatin centers of Tehran, Ishfahan, Shiraz, and Mashhad. Curiously, there has been less disorder in Tabriz, Mousavi's home town.
