The Conoco station where I buy my weekly ticket actually had a $1,000,000 winner this spring. I don't know if this means it is a hot spot or has used up its statistical probability of selling another winner. :?

Bingo. The sugar and caffeine in one Pepsi and Snickers bar is all the excitement I can handle. Life is good. Live and let live. It's the little joys in life (like buying a potentially WINNING ticket) that sustain us.

I waste more money than god can make, but a least I make sure I spend it that things that guarantee some bang for the buck rather than contributing to a selective tax on the poor.
gh--you really do have to lighten up. For the price of two beers(domestic), I got plenty of bang for my buck(s). And this might be the closest I'll ever come to winning the "big one"--I not only live in Queens, I live in the Jamaica section of the borough where the winning ticket was sold!

How can he possibly afford to do this? I doubt if his profit on what you buy is greater than what the ticket costs him.

    Drats

    If by Shel Silverstein
If I had wheels instead of feet
    And roses ‘stead of eyes
Then I could drive to the flower show
    And maybe win a prize.

It's all in the perspective. Everyone does something that somebody else thinks is unconscionably stoopid. Buying the ticket is some people's idea of a big bang.

As they say, ya gotta enter to win, and SOMEbody's gotta win, sooner or later. Sure, it's a sucker's bet (I think the odds are much better that you'll be struck by lightning), but as noted above, for those three days, the Fun Factor is very high. I have never bought a ticket, but I sure don't begrudge those that do it OCCASIONALLY (I do have a problem with the fact that some people are gambling addicts and can't afford all the tickets they're buying).

When I was deployed to Iceland one winter, I played the quarter slot machines in the Officers' Club, winning sometimes, losing most of the time. Probably lost $100 in 6 months. The guys who went to the bar and bought booze spent a lot more than I, and didn't have as much fun! And I had no hangover in the morning.

Nah, Madoff stole lots of people's money--in some cases all of it. The lottery has nothing to do with reality. It's buying three days of fantacizing for a buck. It's a bargain.

Of course, for some, it's a bonanza. Someone did, after all, win that $130 million, or whatever it was. Too smart not to play? I'd love to have been that smart.

There was a winner, but not in Calif. Sigh. Could it be Wineturtle?

Winner was in Queens, NY. Wineturtle says he's from Queens, NY.
