  • Best Athletes Lists: A Question

    ISHPES SportHist Listserv
Both the AP and UPI compiled lists of "100 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century" which seemed to focus on athletic contributions. Was there another list that focused on historic contributions? For instance, in the AP list Jackie Robinson was 29th and 15th in the ESPN report. I seem to remember there was another rating that had Robinson #1. Any help is appreciated.

The SPORTHIST list is hosted by the University of Manchester, Managed by Richard Cox archived at: http://listserv.manchester.ac.uk/archiv ... thist.html. This is an 'open' listserv and the messages do not reflect those of ISHPES, the University or Manager.

USA TODAY had a list as well and Muhammad Ali was voted by them No.1 athlete of the century.
