Track...or so they say on the major track website is the number two most "Popular" sport in the world. Well that aint true because we as a nation are the most prosperous media market in the world with major major players such as Adidas and Nike plus hundreds of products to endorse. I certainly don't see Jeremy Warner? Is that how you spell it? On billboards. So....
Here is my request for a Good Sam Club meet circuit for RHB to go on.
LA late July - major meet
Dallas - late july major meet
NYC - late july major meet
Atlanta - early August - major meet
Washington DC/Baltimore - major meet August
San Fransisco, major meet - August
The qualifying standard is 10,000 fans to be major. Sort of a standard like when Mater Dei faces Long Beach Poly in HS football.
My thanks for all of your help on planning my trip to the greatness of track and field in the USA during the prime months of outdoor competing.

Announced attendance 8000, but in reality far less. Track in NYC in the summer is a no-sell. Whcih is why the NYRRC quickly got out of the business.

Okay....let's go LA, Oregon - Eugene, San Diego, San Fran, OR any city in the USA that mimics the climates in Europe....great post and shows...T and F is not the second most popular sport in the number one country in the world and that is the USA. I mean look at the lineup you posted HUGE talent. Then you have to ask, what was the media campaign for the meet, the grassroot? Now back then there was little online...but look at the horrendous marketing for the Homed Depot meet a few years ago with the worthless picture ad in the LA times sports of Jeremey Warner...NO ONE IN THE USA REALLY KNOWS WHHO HE IS...OTHER THAN A VERY FINE NICHE....Bad marketing, no budgets, no sponsors and we are based in INDY? INDY? Why INDY? Gee, let's have a summer meet in the backyard of our headquarters....NIGHT MEET.
Viareggio is no Newport Beach in the summer yet draws thousands...all over Italy the heat is a killer and even in London in the Summer at Crystal Palace you can bake.
We have a serious problem in USA Track and Field. A huge and bad moldy problem. It starts boys with the NCAA and we don't have one full ride per each event in track and field. Thus, more and more kids take the jump to football at 105 man roster and over I think 90 rides.
I don't buy the weather premise at all for staging post NCAA world class meets in the most dominating, safe, classy, media driven countries in the world with major companies abounding ...its called the USA.
And no one is offering solutions. The first solution is to face up the NCAA and we need more rides per event....sort of starting at the grassroot level. Next, year round, our beloved USA Track heads....In Indy?????? Imagine that ....the number two sport in the world and we base our headquarters in OSH KOSH BEEEGOSH country instead of LA or NY or Atlanta or Dallas...MAJOR MEDIA MARKETS.
Next, we might want to consider riding off the back of HS football in the major markets such as Texas or CIF Southern Section and shifting some of our meets to prior to a major HS football game in a stadium that houses track. IF Mater Dei can draw 20,000 fora big game...we have a day meet at world class and it is a double header. These are wild thoughts, but someone has to wake Hazel up in the kitchen and tell Hazel...it aint working.
Is Modesto still around?
Pepsi?
Sunkist?
Jack In the Box?
Ali?
Have you started putting together your dream team of meet organizers, RHB? The clock is ticking! Get to steppin'! These meets don't put themselves on ya know!
I agree. Its time for RHB to "fish or cut bait." Stop writing and start promoting. Raise some money because "money talks and B.S. walks."
