Despite the horrific act, the father's quote is slobberknockingly asinine and callous.

"The father told the case worker and an officer in her presence that he didn't want her back. He said 'Take her, I don't want her,'" Hill said.

If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Terrible indeed. Makes you hang your head when you consider how often something like this (moreso speaking of the family's reaction) happens in African nations. Especially when you consider that, in Zimbabwe at least, it is "common knowledge" among the inhabitants that raping a virgin will cure a man of HIV/AIDS.

If that's not a horrific thought, I don't know what is.

Many parts of the world still have a long way to go in the area of women's rights. I think this family might experience a backlash from other residents in their community for shunning their daughter and that would be a good thing. I'm sure the local media will be all over this.

And your new home would soon be a penitentiary.

            Probably not.
