  • Most Traveled People

This is a fun website. You can click all the states, territories, nations, etc., you have visited and see how you stack up against some world travellers. I'm only at the "tourist" level. The guy at the top of the list has visited over 700 places.

It's kind of tricky finding all the places on the list. For example, Hawai'i is not under the United States. It is under Pacific Ocean.

It's difficult. In the UK you have to visit many of the little islands too. In fact, I have more ticked off for the US than for the UK.

Daisy, I thought you were from Wisconsin. Are you actually from the UK?

That was fun but depressing. I only had 102 and 47 of those were USA states! Now I feel cheated by Uncle Sam. Join the Navy and see the world - ha!

Yes, grew up in Hampshire and Edinburgh, then moved on to the US.

Gee I thought I had traveled a lot, but I have "only" 80 places ( 47 states and 33 countries).

Well I only had 61. On the other hand no one offered to show me the world. I was surprised by how many of the US states I had been to.

                Really?

My wife and I just had a 10th year Anniversary trip in May/June and we went to the UK. Edinburg (Scotland in general) was the highlight for me. Loved that city.

SO FAR (off the top of my head) only 31 destinations. Only 731 to go!! It'll be fun getting to them.

How can that one dude have 711? He must be filthy rich or have a very unique job, or is lying. Who has that much time?

I only have 47 and I thought I had gotten around a bit. Not so. A lot of those top travellers, if not all of them, are "country collectors" and have the money to do their hobby.

On my list, the hardest place to get to was the Mexican state of Sonora! Which is hilarious because it's about an hour from Tucson, Arizona. When we were there one time, we decided to go to Nogales, Sonora, right on the border. Wasn't hard to get to at all! They base the difficultly level strictly by how many of their posters have been there. Seems to me though that North Korea would be much harder to get to than Sonora.

I wonder how many people count it if they've simply been in an airport? I don't count those, not that that would bump me up much more. Oh, I found two more. Up to 33!

As the kids get older my wife and I will be knocking a lot of these out.

While doing my residency at U of Arizona, we would drive to Nogales. I could buy a quart of quality Jamaican rum for $1.25. We also went there to watch the '70 soccer WC final there in a bar. None of the US networks televised it.

Oh yes, I scored a paltry 69, pretty much central Europe, USA, some Canada.

I went to university there and loved the city. I used to train at Meadowbank and lived there when they hosted the commonwealth games. Also, I got to see MJ run that insane 19.85. I would definitely move back if I had the opportunity, although, I'm not sure I could take the lack of day light hours in the winter.

But, I love it here in the US too. I have had the pleasure of living in CT, CA and WI. They are all different but I have found them all to be very enjoyable and friendly places to live.

We were there in June and I was fascinated by the reverse of this. Light out until 10:30, and sunny by 4:30!! It never really got dark-dark. The sky was always sort of "dawnish" looking.

I'd like to try the Winter, just to experience that short days. That would be neat.

The only rule should be you touch 'soil', i.e., not a floor of a building. My only 'airport' visit was Gitmo, but there's not much we could have done there EXCEPT walk around the base.

Great story! You got to see a classic final! Those must have been the days.

BTW, here's a picture of the top traveller on that list, Charles Veley. Going to be hard to beat this guy:
